About Our Church

We are a growing community of people from all backgrounds and walks of life, from across the Ivers and beyond, who meet on Sunday’s and through the week. We are centred around Jesus Christ and are a close community who have a passion to know God more deeply and who are reaching out to others with God’s love to see lives and places transformed.

Satan's greatest lie is that 'things will always be this way'; the hope of Christmas shatters this illusion and changes everything. God took on flesh - the divine in a skin.

Celebrate this awesome truth on Sunday and Monday as we celebrate Christmas Eve at King's and Christmas Day at King's - we'd love to see you.

Angels in the sky. The birth of a new king. Gifts and glory and the promise of a new hope for mankind. The birth of Jesus had it all. Including the disturbing fact that Jesus was born into poverty.

We read in Luke 2:22-24 that when Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple to be consecrated, they couldn’t afford to sacrifice a lamb. Instead they had to choose the pound shop offering of a “pair of doves or two young pigeons”.

Couldn’t God have chosen a more suitable couple? if you were handing over your child to be brought up by someone else, wouldn’t you at least make sure they were financially secure? Thankfully God doesn’t judge the same way that we do. He’s not fooled by our outward swagger and He’s not impressed by our notions of success. What He looks for is the desire to say Yes to Him.

And that’s what he found in Mary.

In spite of the scandal, in spite of her poverty, in spite of her having to risk everything, she still said Yes to God.

The uncomfortable truth about this Christian life we’re traveling is that all of us are broken and none of us are overqualified for the work that God would involve us in. And yet all of us are invited. When it comes to the work of God, everybody gets to play.

As we approach the new year, are you saying Yes to what God is inviting you into? Perhaps, like Mary, you feel unqualified. Good. Perhaps, like Mary, you’re in over your head. Good. Perhaps, like Mary, all you can do is say Yes and trust that God will handle the rest. That’s the best place any of us can be.

Father God, thank you that you invite me in to serve. Save me from thinking that I can get by without you. I want to rely on you and you alone. Lead me wherever you would have me go. Amen.

Today's King's Friends Friday Flicks movie is - THE BFG - showing at 10am in the King's building.

Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). Naturally scared at first, the young girl soon realizes that the 24-foot behemoth is actually quite gentle and charming. As their friendship grows, Sophie's presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants. After traveling to London, Sophie and the BFG must convince Queen Victoria to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.

Tea and coffee are served at the interval. Donations towards the refreshments are appreciated.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is released in cinemas today which will once again focus on the struggle between the dark and the light sides of 'the force' as the long running franchise continues.

However, we know as Christians, that the light overcame the darkness through Jesus coming to Earth at Christmas and dying on the cross for our sins at Easter. His love will always conquer fear and evil. As we celebrate light in the darkness this Festive season, let’s learn to lead as light in the darkness.

"Silent Night" is one of the most sung carols but did you know that it played a very powerful role in World War One?

Christmas 1914. As the soldiers stood in the pock-marked earth that lay between the trenches, they sang. Unexpectedly – unbelievably – the war was on pause. Some men exchanged greetings and gifts, others played football. All of them took part in what has to be the most powerful Christmas since the very first one.

They called it the Great War, and most people believed that the soldiers would be home by Christmas. Nobody dreamed it would take four years and 16 million dead before World War I finally ended.

Yet the war’s first Christmas contained that moment that continues to be talked about today. After yet another day of fighting, British soldiers on the Western Front saw their German counterparts lift candles into the air late on Christmas Eve. The German soldiers were exposed by the light, their weapons nowhere to be seen, and from their trenches came the sound of a Christmas carol whose melody was profoundly familiar to British ears.

And so, as the Germans sang “Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!”, the British joined in; “Silent Night! Holy Night!” they sang. In time, soldiers from both sides emerged from their defences and walked - unarmed - into no-mans land. At any other time it would have been suicide, but this time it was different. This time it was special.

Like all the best songs, Silent Night has an enduring power to break boundaries and unite enemies. And this simple song continues to inspire today, leading us to stop a while and remember the powerful truth behind the fact that, “Christ the Saviour is born”. That one, simple fact has changed everything.

Two thousand years ago another man did something that made the world stop. Jesus stepped into no-mans land and changed things forever. He didn’t just secure a temporary truce, but secured our eternal place in the presence of God. In His death and resurrection, He made everything new. Thanks to Him, there will be no more death. And because of all that Jesus did, we get to start again. We get to have things put right between us and God. We get to come home.

Father God, thank you for sending your Son to rescue us. Teach us what it means to say Yes to you today.

Advent is nearly upon us and here at King's Church Iver we’re really excited for all the Christmas events and services we have lined up this year!

The word ‘Advert’ can be translated into ‘Coming’. We certainly can say that we celebrate the coming of God’s son, Jesus Christ, the light of the world, during Advent. Jesus came to the earth, born of a virgin and laid in a manger, as there was no room at the inn. Angels sent shepherds to the stable and a bright star in the east brought wise men from afar. They marvelled and glorified God at what they had seen.

What may be more incredible during the time of advent, is that it reminds us each year, we can accept the coming of Jesus Christ into our own personal lives. By the power of the Holy Spirit, God allows us access to His holy presence here on earth as we live out our lives for Him, and walk with Him each day. We remember that Jesus came to this earth to give us a new covenant of love and to sacrifice His life for our sins in place of us. We remember Jesus came to fulfil the prophecies of old, that He would be wounded and killed for our transgressions. He did not stay dead but rose again and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father. As well as having a personal relationship with the Jesus, we can also anticipate the second coming of Christ as He promised to come back to Earth in John 14v3;
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also."

We can get, quite literally sometimes, wrapped up in tinsel, Christmas turkey trimmings and of course untangling those fairy lights! We can easily miss out reflecting over the coming of Christ and why he came. Jesus is coming back so we can have hope and live with Him in heaven for eternity.
image. Just as the scriptures says in Luke 2v20;
"…the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them."

So we also can be joyful and exalt God for all that He has done for us and all that He will do for us. We should not take for granted the ultimate gift God gave us – eternal life with Him. This is promised to us in John 1v12-13;
"But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God."

What better way to share the good news of Christmas than to invite your friends, families and neighbours to one of the many events or services we have this festive season. More often than not friends and family members who wouldn’t normally go to church, may well be open to coming along! They too may be awed like the wise men and shepherds when they met the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

We will remember them.

Today we are reminded, on the 99th anniversary of the end of the 1st World War, that although human conflict is costly some battles must be fought in order to stand against human tyranny. We honour those who have paid the ultimate price in doing so and we ourselves must not neglect to stand up for what is right and oppose that which is unjust. May God help us all to see with great clarity lest we find ourselves fighting the wrong battles.

We're delighted to be welcoming Stephen Norman of World Vision UK as our Guest Speaker this Sunday morning.

World Vision is the world’s largest international children’s charity, working to bring real hope to millions of children in the world’s hardest places. And we do it all as a sign of God’s unconditional love. Poverty, conflict and disaster leave millions of children living in fear. Fear of hunger and disease. Fear of violence, conflict and exploitation. Fear that robs them of a childhood.

Our local staff work in thousands of communities across the world to free children from fear. They live and work alongside them, their families and communities to help change the world they live in for good. Their worldwide presence means we're quick to respond to emergencies like conflict and natural disasters. We also use our influence and global reach to ensure that children are represented at every level of decision-making. We can do this because people like you are prepared to sponsor, donate, pray, campaign or simply share the stories of boys and girls who have been given hope for the future.

Do join us in Iver Village Hall at 10.30am with refreshments served from 10.15am. We'll also be marking Remembrance Sunday with a two minute silence at 11am.
